China’s largest unmanned helicopter made its first test flight on May 7 in Weifang, a city in Shandong province (East).

Named V750, this rotary wing drone flew from the test center of Weifang Tianxiang Technology Group. The flight lasted ten minutes.

The V750 has a maximum flight weight of 757 kg. It has a load capacity of more than 80 kg and can fly for four hours at a maximum speed of 161 km/h covering a distance of 500 km at an altitude of over 3,000 meters.

The helicopter will also be able to be remotely controlled from a distance of more than 150 km, or fly automatically according to a programme.

The V750 will perform aerial surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

Its design is the result of cooperation between Weifang Tianxiang Technology Group, Qingdao Haili Helicopter Co. Ltd, and the Research Institute of Automatic Flight Control. Its development started in August 2010. Its annual production will be 150 models per year.

The success of this test flight fills a gap in China’s helicopter drone research“, said Cheng Shenzong, president of Weifang Tianxiang Technology Group.
